This past weekend, Jenny Schwartz, who works at the Ulster County Planning Department, gave a walking tour through Midtown Kingston and revealed some amazing historical and architectural tidbits.
Of note:
* The Kingston High School on Broadway, built about 100 years ago, was inspired by the East Wing of the Louvre in Paris.
* Kingston City Hall found its design inspiration from the city hall of Florence, Italy.
* The Kingston City Library on Broadway is one of 1,689 Carnegie libraries that were built in the U.S.
A good starting point to learn more about the city’s architectural assets is the website of the Friends of Historic Kingston. Check it out here.
